Nippers 2021 - Season Kick Off

19 Nov 2021 by Rhys Davies

Good Evening Nipper Community,

Welcome to the 2021 Season!

Firstly thanks to all those that have completed their sign up process and paid fees through to the club we have had a huge response to the season! For those that have signed up and have yet to pay please feel free to transfer your funds to the club account (email me for details) or come see me on Sunday and we can finalise your membership.

I am pleased to say we are likely to have over 60 nippers signed up for the season which is amazing for our return season. Given this is our first season back I am keen to increase our numbers further so spread the word and invite your friends. I will happily put further nippers through their proficiency across the season to grow our club as much as possible.

As a further reminder please can I ask all parents to sign up to the Team App and search for Batemans Bay SLSC Nippers and join the group – this will hopefully be my primary communication tool going forward.

So, this Sunday (21st November) will be our first official nipper session. Couple of requests for all parents and nippers for this Sunday:
- Please remember your pink rash vests – please note we have ordered new rash vests and these will be available in a few weeks to swap over for those that have borrowed one.
- Weather – Sunday is looking like another wet one! Bring warm clothing to jump into after we have finished in the ocean (subject to conditions which I will assess in the morning).
- Gear – in addition to your wet gear please also bring some dryland gear – shorts t-shirts etc for beach activities.
- BBQ – I am planning on trying to fire up the BBQ and will bring along some snags, bread and drinks – I will be looking for one of the parents to lend a hand firing up the BBQ so if anyone is willing to step up, come see me first thing. We will also use the BBQ to assist with our fundraising activities, as such, please be prepared to put a few gold coins in for good measure. I am thinking $2 a snag and $2 a can – but open to suggestions :-).
- Help – Whilst many of the parents have put up their hand to assist through the year (THANK YOU!) we are still working through the training requirements. As such, it is likely we will still be a bit short on the weekend of helpers. If any parents are happy to get wet, please bring your trunks and wetsuits, we will certainly appreciate the help on the beach and we will put you to good use :-).

Fundraising / Sponsorship Effort
Some of you may have seen my posts this week in relation to fundraising. To make our Nipper program as successful as possible we are going to need some new equipment and unfortunately this equipment is not cheap. Whilst I can leverage my connections back into the surf community to get us the equipment we require at very good prices, to do so we will need some cash. Hence I am asking you all to assist with our fundraising efforts. There are many avenues for fundraising but two key avenues are donations and sponsorship. I have already set up a fundraising site here:
Project page URL (includes “story”): https://asf.org.au/projects/batemans-bay-surf-lifesaving-club/

Donation page URL (direct to online donation form): https://asf.org.au/donate/batemans-bay-nipper-fundraiser/

Can I ask all parents to assist through sharing these links through your networks to generate some interest in donations.

In addition I have also prepared a sponsorship pack for potential and prospective sponsors. I plan on contacting local businesses through the region to see if we can generate some interest in sponsorship for the club. There are many benefits to sponsoring the Nippers and the Club and we can offer up some good visibility for any businesses that want to make a contribution to our program. If any of you know of potential sponsors please put them in direct contact with myself and I will happily discuss what the club might be able to offer up for a contribution towards our program.

Thanks again to everyone for joining our program. It is shaping up to be a great restart to our Nipper program and I am excited about watching our little ones grow and progress over the season. Keep spreading the word among your connections the more nippers and parents the better!

I look forward to seeing you all on the beach on Sunday and Malua Bay 10am :-).

In the meantime if you have any questions don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Regards
